Chelsea Part Ways With Manager – Enzo Maresca

Chelsea FC has parted ways with manager Enzo Maresca on New Year’s Day, ending his tenure in the second season of a five-year contract signed in June 2024.

Gatekeepers News reports that the Italian coach’s time at Stamford Bridge was marked by a recent slump in form, with Chelsea winning only once in seven English Premier League matches. The latest setback was a 2-2 draw against Bournemouth on Tuesday.

However, sources indicate that Maresca’s departure was not solely due to on-field results. Reports suggest tensions developed between the coach and some members of the club hierarchy, which became public in early December.

Following a 2-0 win over Everton, Maresca described the experience as his worst 48 hours at Chelsea, citing disagreements with club officials.

Earlier in 2025, Maresca’s attempt to write a book highlighting his achievements was blocked by the club. He later spoke about the censorship at Il Festival dello Sport in Italy without Chelsea’s permission, further straining his relationship with the management.

During his 92 matches in charge, Maresca won 55 games. He led Chelsea back to the UEFA Champions League, secured the UEFA Conference League title, and won the FIFA Club World Cup, all in his debut season.

Chelsea is now expected to appoint a new manager quickly to stabilise the team and improve results as the club looks to maintain its position in the Premier League and European competitions this season.
