A total of 28 graduands have successfully completed the academic programs from various faculties and emerged with First Class , the management of Borno State owned Kashim Ibrahim University (KIU) said on Thursday.
Gatekeepers News reports that the First Class graduands alongside over 2000 other graduands will be part of the first combined convocation ceremony slated for January 3rd, 2026.
Vice Chancellor of KIU, Professor Babagana Gutti, made the disclosure during a World Press Conference held at the Senate Building of the institution in Maiduguri, the Borno State Capital.

Professor Gutti said the First Class graduands were from three different academic sessions since the inception of the state university in 2016.
” First Set – 2022/2023 Academic Session: In this set, the University graduated Five Hundred & Twenty-Three (523) students, out of which, five (5) graduated with First Class.
Second Set = 2023/2024 Academic Session:The University graduated Four Hundred and Eighty-Nine (489) students, among which, ten (10) graduated with First Class across four faculties

“Third Set = 2024/2025 Academic Session:
In this set, the University is graduating One Thousand, Two Hundred & Eighty-Two (1,282) students, out of which, thirteen (13) students graduated with First Class across the four faculties. ” Professor Gutti said
The KIU Vice-Chancellor added that ” In all the three sets, there is a sizeable number of students that graduated with Second Class Upper Division, Second Class Lower Division, Third Class and Pass degrees, respectively.

Professor Gutti revealed that ” in line with the programme, there will be a pre-convocation lecture to be delivered on Friday, 2nd January, 2026, by Professor Michael O. Faborode, former Vice-Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. The title of his lecture is, “Insecurity and Environmental Fragility in the Lake Chad Basin Areas: Education, Health and Sustainable Agriculture Tripartite to the Rescue”. The venue is Block.

“Three (3) Lecture Theatre, and time is 4 p.m. It will be under the distinguished chairmanship of Professor Emeritus Abubakar Mustapha, mni, former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Maiduguri.
” The main ceremony, which will feature conferment of degrees on graduands and presentation of prizes, is scheduled to hold at the Convocation Square of the University, on Saturday, 3rd January, 2026, by 10 a.m. Very important personalities from within and outside Borno State are expected to grace the occasion. The Special Guest of Honour is His Excellency, Senator Kashim Shettima, GCON, Vice-President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“On this note, I wish to announce to you that the Visitor, His Excellency, Engr. Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, the Executive Governor of Borno State, has approved the appointment of a new Chancellor to our institution. He is His Imperial Majesty, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Babatunde Ogunwusi (Ojaja II), CFR, and the Ooni of Ife. In line with academic tradition, the conferment of degrees and presentation of prizes will be preceded by the investiture of the new Chancellor. Then, the Conferment of Honourary Doctorate of Letters to the Chancellor and the Pro Chancellor, Alh (Dr.) Muhammadu Indimi.”
