A Kano State High Court has upheld the suspension of Hashimu Dungurawa as the state chairman of New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), following his removal by party executives at the ward level.
Gatekeepers News reports that the court ruling affirmed the decision taken by executive members of Gargari ward in Dawakin-Tofa LGA, who had earlier suspended and expelled Dungurawa from the party. The ward officials acted on December 30, 2025, barely weeks after Dungurawa was re-elected as state chairman.
According to court documents, the suspension was initiated by 27 ward executives who accused Dungurawa of actions capable of destabilising the party in Kano State.
The allegations included fomenting internal crises, undermining party unity, and making statements considered injurious to the leadership of the party in the state.
Following his suspension, the ward executives announced Abdullahi Abiya as the acting chairman of the NNPP in Kano, pending the resolution of the dispute.
In a motion ex parte filed by Shuaibu Hassan and nine other members of the Gargari ward, the plaintiffs requested an order restraining Dungurawa from presenting himself as the NNPP chairman in Kano State. They argued that his continued claim to the office could worsen internal tensions within the party.
Ruling on the application, Justice Zuwaira Yusuf granted an interlocutory injunction barring Dungurawa from parading himself as the party’s state chairman.
The court further ordered that the suspension imposed by the ward executives should remain in force until the substantive matter is determined.
The judge also directed all parties to maintain the status quo as of December 30, 2025, and adjourned the case to January 19, 2026, for further hearing.
