Controversial singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has been arraigned and remanded in custody over multiple criminal allegations bordering on assault, theft, and obstruction of police officers.
Gatekeepers News reports that Portable was brought before the federal high court in Ota, Ogun state, on Monday, where he faced a nine-count charge filed by the Ogun state police command.
Oluseyi Babaseyi, police spokesperson, confirmed that the charges include assault, causing bodily harm, stealing, and resisting lawful arrest.
The case followed a viral video that surfaced on Sunday showing the singer in police custody. The arrest was reportedly connected to a petition submitted by his estranged partner, Ashabi Simple, over an incident that allegedly occurred on New Year’s Day at Portable’s bar in the Iyana Ilogbo area of Ogun state.
According to the prosecution, Portable allegedly assaulted Ashabi alongside police officers and other individuals who were present at the scene. Those listed as victims in the charge include Ileyemi Damilola, Akinyanju Oluwabusayomi, Olowu Olumide, Demilade Ogunniyi, and Ebuka Odah.
The singer was also accused of stealing a Mercedes-Benz E300 valued at N12 million, said to belong to Ileyemi Damilola, with Wally Dex Auto listed as the dealer. In addition, police alleged that Portable attacked and obstructed Ogungbe Olayemi, a female police inspector, while she was carrying out her official duties.
During the court proceedings, two siblings of Ashabi Simple testified as witnesses to the alleged assault, although Ashabi herself was not in court.
The presiding judge declined to grant Portable bail, insisting that the allegedly assaulted police officer must be physically present in court before any bail application could be considered.
As a result, Portable was ordered to be remanded in custody, with the case adjourned to January 19 for fresh consideration of bail. Meanwhile, Ogun police command has opened an internal investigation into a separate viral video showing the singer being allegedly assaulted while in custody.
