Federal government has applauded Super Eagles for their determination and performance at Africa Cup of Nations despite their semi-final loss.
Gatekeepers News reports that Nigeria’s campaign at the 2025 AFCON ended on Wednesday after the Atlas Lions of Morocco secured a place in the final through a penalty shootout victory over the Super Eagles.
Mohammed Idris, minister of information and national orientation, delivered the federal government’s message in a statement issued on Thursday.
He said the players showed strong character, unity, and resilience, which he noted are values that matter greatly to the country.
According to the minister, the commitment and effort displayed by the team throughout the tournament earned them appreciation from Nigerians both within the country and abroad.
Idris said, “Thank you for giving your all and for representing Nigeria with pride and dignity.”
“Even in defeat, you showed character, teamwork, and resilience, and those qualities matter deeply to the nation you represent.”
“Football has its highs and lows, but your effort, commitment, and fighting spirit throughout this tournament have earned the respect and gratitude of Nigerians at home and abroad.”
The minister added that the team’s display reminded citizens of the values attached to representing the nation on the field.
He said, “You reminded us that wearing the green and white is about courage, unity, and never giving up.”
“Hold your heads high, learn from this experience, stay united, and return stronger.”
“Nigeria remains proud of you and grateful for the joy and hope you gave us during this competition.”
The Super Eagles are scheduled to face Egypt in the third-place match of the tournament on Saturday.
