Tax and Audit Officer

Specifications:

  • Full Time
  • Required Qualifications: BA/BSC/HND
  • Location: Lagos| Nigeria.

Description:

The Tax and Audit Officer will manage tax planning, compliance, and audits while ensuring adherence to statutory regulations and minimizing financial risks. The role involves filing tax returns (CIT, VAT, PAYE, WHT), developing tax strategies, monitoring tax law changes, and liaising with tax authorities. It also covers coordinating internal/external audits, reviewing controls, resolving audit issues, and ensuring compliance with financial regulations.

Key Responsibilities

Tax Management:

  • Ensure timely and accurate preparation and filing of all tax returns (CIT, VAT, PAYE, WHT, etc.).
  • Develop tax planning strategies to optimize tax liabilities within legal bounds.
  • Monitor changes in tax laws and assess their impact on the company’s operations.
  • Liaise with tax authorities and external tax consultants to resolve tax issues or audits.
  • Maintain proper documentation of all tax transactions and correspondence.

Audit Oversight:

  • Plan and coordinate internal and external audit processes.
  • Liaise with external auditors to ensure timely and accurate completion of statutory audits.
  • Review and assess internal controls and recommend improvements.
  • Investigate audit findings and implement corrective actions.
  • Prepare and present audit reports to senior management.

Compliance and Risk Management:

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable local and international financial regulations.
  • Identify and assess areas of financial risk and recommend mitigating measures.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry and regulatory developments.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Minimum of a second class upper (2:1) BSc degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Professional certification (ACA, ACCA) required.
  • 2–4 years’ tax and audit experience (oil & gas/manufacturing an advantage).
  • Strong knowledge of Nigerian tax laws, audit standards, ERP/accounting software.
  • Integrity, analytical ability, attention to detail, and communication skills.
