Lagos Taskforce Arrests 75 In Coastal Road Raid

The Lagos State Government, through the Environmental and Special Offences Taskforce, has arrested 75 suspected hoodlums during a late-night enforcement operation along the Coastal Road axis of the state.

Gatekeepers Newreports that the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, confirmed the arrests in a statement issued on Thursday, saying the raid was carried out around 10 p.m. as part of ongoing efforts to sanitise the area and strengthen public safety.

According to Wahab, the operation targeted identified criminal hideouts along the Coastal Road corridor.

“Operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Taskforce conducted a late-night operation around 10 p.m., focusing on known black spots along the Coastal Road,” he said.

He disclosed that 75 suspects—68 males and seven females—were apprehended during the exercise, while substances suspected to be illicit drugs were recovered from the scene.

Wahab also revealed that the operation turned violent when some of the suspects attacked enforcement officers.

“During the exercise, one of our officers, Inspector Omosanjo Mohammed, was assaulted by hoodlums and sustained a serious head injury,” the commissioner stated, adding that the officer is currently receiving medical attention.

He warned that attacks on law enforcement personnel would not be tolerated and stressed that all arrested suspects would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.

“The Lagos State Government remains committed to restoring order and ensuring that Coastal Road and its environs are safe for residents and commuters,” Wahab added.
