Gov Aliyu Commissions Buhari Dan Shehu Mosque In Tambuwal

Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, has commissioned the Buhari Dan Shehu Jumu’at Mosque in Tambuwal.

Gatekeepers News reports that according to a statement by Abubakar Bawa, Director General of
Media and Publicity in the Government House on Saturday, the mosque was reconstructed by Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko following its abandonment by the administration of Aminu Waziri Tambuwal.

Governor Aliyu explained that the reconstruction of the Jumu’at Mosque was initially awarded during the Aminu Waziri Tambuwal administration but was abandoned despite its immense spiritual significance to the people of the area.

“This mosque remained in a state of disrepair until the assumption of office by this administration in 2023, when we made a firm commitment to complete the project,” the Governor said.

He added that his mentor and leader, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, later requested that the State Government allow him the honour and spiritual reward of completing the project, a request that was gladly approved.

Governor Aliyu described Senator Wamakko as a philanthropist of uncommon generosity, with deep passion and unwavering commitment to the cause of Islam and service to humanity.

“Indeed, it is almost impossible to enumerate the mosques, Islamiyyah schools, and numerous charitable projects you have executed not only within Sokoto State but across Nigeria and beyond,” the Governor added.

He further stated that the construction, renovation, and upgrading of mosques across Sokoto State form a major component of his administration’s 9-Point Development Agenda, particularly under the promotion of Islamic affairs.

Governor Aliyu listed some mosque projects executed by his administration to include:
Sheikh Musa Ayyuba Lukuwa Mosque, Mabera;
Sheikh Abubakar Gummi Mosque, Unguwar Rogo;
Sheikh Abdullahi Fodio Mosque, Badon Uku-Uku;
Sheikh Buhari Dan Shehu Mosque, among others.

He also disclosed that the government has commissioned several remodelled Jumu’at mosques across local government areas, including two in Kware, two in Shagari, and one each in Yabo, Goronyo, Gwadabawa, and Wamakko, as well as the Izala Jumu’at Mosque in Kebbe.

Speaking earlier, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko commended Governor Ahmed Aliyu for the numerous people-oriented projects being executed across the state.

He also conveyed the goodwill message of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the Governor.

“Mr President asked me to tell you that he is proud of you, Mr Governor. I always watch you on television commissioning one project or another, and he asked me to tell you that he is very proud of you,” Senator Wamakko said.

The former Governor explained that the reconstruction of the Buhari Dan Shehu Mosque was aimed at complementing government efforts to improve houses of worship and Islamiyyah schools across the state.

He urged Governor Ahmed Aliyu not to relent in his transformative agenda geared toward ensuring a prosperous and future-assured Sokoto State, while also calling on well-meaning individuals to complement government efforts for the overall development of the state.

In his remarks, the representative of the Sultan of Sokoto, Professor Sambo Wali Junaid, emphasized the need for residents around the mosque to utilize it effectively in propagating Islamic ideals, particularly through teaching the basic tenets of Islam.

The Sokoto State Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Dr. Jabir Sani Mai Hulla, commended Senator Wamakko for the numerous religious infrastructure projects he has executed within and outside the state.

He noted that the establishment of the Ministry for Religious Affairs by Senator Wamakko during his tenure as Governor remains a clear testament to his passion for Islamic propagation and Da’wah, and prayed to Almighty Allah to accept all his charitable deeds.

Earlier, the Chairman of Tambuwal Local Government Council, Abba Shehu Tambuwal, highlighted several projects executed in the area by the Governor Ahmed Aliyu-led administration.

These include the construction of 65 kilometres of roads covering Alasan–Romon Sarki, Zawiyya–Banga Dikko, Gidan Yari Nabaguda–Dogon Daji bypass, Kajiji–Jabo Road; renovation of Dogon Daji Primary Health Care Centre; and the procurement of mass transit buses for all the 23 local government areas.

He added that the council has distributed motorcycles to security agencies to enhance security in the area and renovated heavy-duty vehicles and ambulances originally procured by Senator Wamakko during his tenure as Governor.

The Chief Imam of the Buhari Dan Shehu Jumu’at Mosque, Imam Maniru, later led the two-raka’at congregational Friday prayers, followed by special prayers for Allah’s guidance and blessings upon Governor Ahmed Aliyu, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, and the entire leadership of the state.
