Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, participated in the 30th General Assembly of the Organization of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD), convened alongside the 39th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of African Union Heads of State and Government.
Gatekeepers News reports that the meeting, which began on 11 February 2026 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, brought together First Ladies from across Africa to deliberate on strategic initiatives aimed at improving health, education, and socio-economic outcomes on the continent.
The Assembly opened with technical meetings to consider internal matters and advance OFLAD’s strategic priorities.

According to Hamman , The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, was represented by the Wife of the Vice President, Hajiya Nana Shettima, who took part in a series of sessions and other activities lined up for the five‑day summit.
The President of OFLAD, Dr. Fatima Maada Bio First Lady of Sierra Leone described the forum as a unique platform for First Ladies to exchange experiences and build capacity to respond to the evolving needs of the continent.
The outcomes of the technical sessions were deliberated during the closed session on 14 February, and recommendations were made available to the First Ladies for adoption.
The General Assembly open session was held on 15 February under the theme: “Building Resilience for Women and Girls: Climate, Conflict, and Sustainable Futures.”
The 30th Assembly provides a platform for dialogue and coordination on climate, conflict, and gender‑responsive solutions.
At the conclusion of the closed session, the First Ladies joined their spouses at the African Union Commission Convention Centre for the 39th AU open session.
Among those in attendance at the 30th OFLAD in Addis Ababa are the First Ladies and First Gentleman from across the continent, including Dr. Fatima Maada Bio Sierra Leone, Ana Dias Lourenço Angola, Rachel Ruto Kenya, Lordina Mahama Ghana, Kartumu Yarta Boakai Liberia, Constancia Mangue Nsue Okomo Equatorial Guinea, Zita Nyangue Oligui Nguema Gabon, Marie Khone Faye Senegal, Angeline Ndayishimiye Ndayubaha Burundi, Senator Oluremi Tinubu represented by Hajiya Nana Shettima, the First Gentleman of Namibia, Lieutenant‑General Retired. Epaphras Denga Ndaitwa, and the Host First Lady of Ethiopia, Zinash Tayachew.
“Nigeria’s engagement reaffirms its support to collaborate on gender sensitive approaches that enhance resilience for women and girls across Africa.” Hamman stated .
