At least 14 people have died in a boat accident in Yauri Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
Gatekeepers News reports that the incident occurred at Gumbi village in Gumbi Ward of Yauri LGA, after the victims had accompanied a bride to her husband’s home in Gwarzo village, Ngaski Local Government Area.
The celebrants were said to be returning home when the boat capsized, throwing more than 100 passengers into the river.
Fourteen people — 13 women and one child — were confirmed dead.
Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, attended the funeral prayers and condoled with the families of the victims, the local government, the emirate and the people of Yauri.
Represented by the Chairman of Yauri LGA, Abubakar Shu’aibu, the governor urged the community to accept the incident as the will of God.
“I appeal to you to accept this in good faith, bearing in mind that nothing happens without the knowledge of our Creator.
“God does what He wants at the time He wants, and nobody has the right to question Him,” he said.
The governor also prayed for the deceased, asking God to forgive their shortcomings and grant them Jannatul Firdaus.
All the victims have since been buried in accordance with Islamic rites.
