Head coach of the Nigeria women’s national football team, Justine Madugu, has unveiled a 25-player squad for the team’s double-header international friendlies against Cameroon women’s national football team ahead of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Gatekeepers News reports that Midfielder Ngozi Okobi-Okeoghene returns to the national team after more than three years away, alongside forward Gift Monday, who also makes her comeback following a prolonged absence.
There is a maiden invitation for 20-year-old British-Nigerian goalkeeper Comfort Erhabor, while Tanzania-based midfielder Precious Christopher earns her first-ever call-up.
Regulars such as Rasheedat Ajibade, Esther Okoronkwo, Osinachi Ohale, Michelle Alozie, Oluwatosin Demehin, Ashleigh Plumptre, Halimatu Ayinde, Christy Ucheibe, Deborah Abiodun, Jennifer Echegini, Omorinsola Babajide and Folashade Ijamilusi retained their places in the squad.
The most notable omission is Asisat Oshoala, the record-holder for the CAF Women’s Player of the Year award.
Nigeria will face Cameroon twice in Yaoundé, with the first match scheduled for February 28 and the return fixture set for March 3. The games are part of preparations for the 2026 WAFCON in Morocco.
The tournament will run from March 17 to April 3, with all four semi-finalists qualifying automatically for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
