Lagos State Police Command has arrested some of its officers following a shooting incident that claimed the lives of two passersby in the Alagbado area of the state.
Gatekeepers News reports that the incident occurred on Friday during a police operation in which officers were reportedly pursuing suspected internet fraudsters. In the course of the chase, gunshots were discharged, leading to the death of two civilians who were said to be uninvolved in the operation.
Confirming the development, the command’s spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, said the affected officers had been taken into custody on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh.
She added that a comprehensive investigation had been ordered to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the shooting and to ensure accountability.
Adebisi also disclosed that additional security personnel had been deployed to the area to prevent any breakdown of law and order, noting that calm had since been restored. She assured residents that the command would make the investigation’s outcome public and that justice would be served.
Eyewitness accounts indicated that the victims were innocent bystanders who were caught in the crossfire during the operation. The incident sparked tension in the community, prompting swift intervention by security authorities to stabilise the situation.
