Kola Onifoto, a popular Nigerian documentary photographer and biker, has died after suffering injuries in a motorcycle accident in Lagos.
Gatekeepers News reports that the 32-year-old creative, whose real name was Orowole Samuel Kolapo, reportedly crashed on Sunday during what he described as his first solo ride beyond Lagos.had set out on a journey to Akure, the Ondo State capital, sharing his excitement with followers on Facebook just hours before the incident.
In his post, he praised long-distance riders across Nigeria and beyond, writing, “Big shoutout to those who have ridden their bikes to every state in this country, to Africa and across the world, especially women”.
According to friends and fellow bikers, the crash happened on the outskirts of Lagos in what was described as a lone accident. He was first taken to the Federal Road Safety Corps emergency unit in Ojota for urgent attention before being transferred to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital in Idi-Araba.
Supporters and colleagues flooded social media with prayers after news of his condition spread. However, he later passed away in the early hours of Monday due to complications from his injuries.
Onifoto was known for his strong passion for travel storytelling and documentary photography, often sharing visual narratives from different locations across Nigeria. In January, he had announced that he recently became a biker and spoke about fulfilling a lifelong dream of exploring the country on two wheels.
His death has triggered an outpouring of tributes from friends, clients and members of Nigeria’s creative and biking communities, who described him as energetic, bold and deeply passionate about his craft.
