Tinubu Appoints Taiwo Oyedele As Minister Of State For Finance

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has put forward Taiwo Oyedele for appointment as Minister of State for Finance, subject to confirmation by the Senate.

Gatekeepers News reports that Oyedele, who currently chairs the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, is expected to replace Doris Uzoka-Anite. Uzoka-Anite will be redeployed to the Ministry of Budget and Planning, marking her third assignment under the present administration.

The nomination was conveyed in a letter sent by the President to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, seeking legislative approval. The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.

According to the statement, Oyedele, 50, is an economist, accountant, and public policy expert with over two decades of professional experience. He began his academic journey at Yaba College of Technology, where he obtained a Higher National Diploma in accountancy and finance. He later earned a BSc in applied accounting from Oxford Brookes University.

He has also completed executive training programmes at the London School of Economics, Yale University, the Gordon Institute of Business Science, and the Harvard Kennedy School.

Before his government appointment, Oyedele spent 22 years at PwC, joining the firm in 2001 and rising to the position of Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader. His work focused on tax advisory, fiscal reforms, and economic policy across several African countries.

In addition to his professional career, Oyedele serves as a professor at Babcock University in Ogun State and as a visiting scholar at the Lagos Business School.

President Tinubu appointed him in July 2023 to lead the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, with a mandate to review and modernise Nigeria’s tax framework. The committee has since proposed measures aimed at expanding the tax base, improving revenue collection, and simplifying tax administration.

Doris Uzoka-Anite was first appointed Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment in August 2023 before she was reassigned as Minister of State for Finance in November 2024. Her latest redeployment will see her oversee matters related to national budgeting and economic planning, pending any further confirmation processes.
