Senate has confirmed the appointment of Usman Dakingari as a non-career ambassador and Ismail Abba Yusuf as chairman and chief executive officer of National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON).
Gatekeepers News reports that the confirmations were announced during plenary after lawmakers considered and adopted the report of the Senate committee on foreign affairs, which screened the nominees and recommended them for approval.
Presenting the report, Sani Bello, chairman of the committee, said the panel examined the credentials and experience of the nominees and found them qualified to occupy the positions.
Recall that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had earlier forwarded Dakingari’s name to the Senate for confirmation as a non-career ambassador, while Yusuf was nominated to head the Hajj commission.
Following the approval, Senate President Godswill Akpabio congratulated both nominees and urged them to justify the confidence placed in them by serving diligently in their new roles.
The confirmation paves the way for Dakingari to represent Nigeria in diplomatic service abroad, while Yusuf will oversee the activities of NAHCON, the federal agency responsible for organising and supervising Hajj and Umrah operations for Nigerian pilgrims.
