Two applicants seeking enlistment into Nigeria Police Force have been arrested after they were caught with forged National Examinations Council (NECO) results during the ongoing constable recruitment exercise in Bauchi State.

Gatekeepers News reports that the arrest was made at the Police Training School in Bauchi during the screening of candidates for the nationwide recruitment of 50,000 police constables.

Nafiu Habib, spokesperson of the Bauchi State Police Command, said the screening team processed a total of 403 candidates during the exercise. According to him, 354 applicants were screened for general duty positions while 49 were assessed for specialist roles.

Habib disclosed that the two suspects, who were both bearing the same name, Yusuf Usman, were discovered with fake NECO certificates while moving together during the screening process.

“The team screened 354 General Duty and 49 Specialists, making a total of 403 candidates. Two candidates were arrested with forged NECO results, both named Yusuf Usman, and they were moving together throughout the process,” he said.

The police spokesperson added that the recruitment team leader directed that the suspects be handed over to the Divisional Police Officer of the ‘E’ Division for further investigation and possible prosecution.

Habib also warned applicants against engaging in fraudulent activities during recruitment exercises, stressing that the police would not tolerate certificate forgery or any form of malpractice.

The screening exercise forms part of the federal government’s ongoing nationwide recruitment drive aimed at adding 50,000 constables to the Nigeria Police Force.
