Newcastle United dealt a setback to Chelsea’s push for a top-four finish after securing a narrow 1–0 victory in their Premier League encounter at Stamford Bridge.
Gatekeepers News reports that the decisive goal came in the 18th minute when Anthony Gordon finished off a quick attacking move to put Newcastle ahead early in the match.
Chelsea dominated possession for much of the game and created several scoring opportunities, but they struggled to convert their chances as Newcastle’s defence remained solid throughout the contest.
The hosts came close to finding an equaliser late in the match when Reece James struck the post with a free kick during stoppage time, but the ball stayed out, allowing Newcastle to hold on for the victory.
The defeat leaves Chelsea still fighting to secure a Champions League spot as the Premier League season approaches its final stages, while Newcastle boosted their own hopes of qualifying for European competition with the important away win.
Newcastle manager Eddie Howe praised his team’s resilience after the match, noting that the players showed determination to defend their early lead against sustained pressure from the home side.
