Usher and Justin Bieber reportedly had a heated verbal exchange following the 2026 Academy Awards during a private Oscars after-party hosted by Beyoncé and Jay-Z.
Gatekeepers News reports that the incident allegedly occurred at the exclusive “Gold Party,” the annual celebration organised by the power couple at Chateau Marmont. According to reports by TMZ, the confrontation drew the attention of several guests at the star-studded gathering.
Witnesses described the exchange as “intense” and “tense,” momentarily distracting from the celebratory mood of the night. Early speculation on social media suggested the disagreement had turned physical, but sources close to Bieber later clarified that no physical contact occurred.
Insiders said Usher approached Bieber during the event with what was described as “anger,” leading to a brief but sharp argument between the two singers in front of numerous high-profile attendees.
Usher and Bieber share a long-standing professional relationship that dates back to the early days of Bieber’s career. Usher famously mentored the singer after he was discovered at age 13 by manager Scooter Braun in 2008, playing a key role in launching Bieber’s career through the RBMG joint venture.
However, industry observers say the pair have grown apart in recent years. They have reportedly not been seen together publicly since 2022, with some reports suggesting Bieber has been making efforts to distance himself from figures tied to his early career.
Sources familiar with the situation claimed Bieber may not have wanted to engage with his former mentor during the party, which allegedly contributed to the tension when Usher approached him.
Neither artist has publicly addressed the incident, though several theories about the dispute have circulated within the industry. Some observers have linked it to Bieber’s decision to decline a guest appearance during Usher’s 2024 Super Bowl Halftime Show.
Speaking in a 2024 interview with Charlamagne Tha God on The Breakfast Club, Usher addressed the situation at the time.
“We’re going to do something else in the future, but no love lost or anything like that. I think that it’s a lot of pressure for the Super Bowl, obviously, for me to put together a show, so I reached out to everybody,” Usher said.
“Justin wasn’t the only person I actually spoke to about doing the Super Bowl, but the moment was maybe for later,” he added.
As of press time, representatives for both artists have not issued any official statements regarding the reported argument.
Despite the intensity of the exchange, no security personnel intervened and no police reports were filed.
The private event was attended by several prominent figures, including Taylor Swift, Travis Kelce, Timothée Chalamet, Kylie Jenner and Emma Stone. Bieber’s wife, Hailey Bieber, was also present.
