Babagana Zulum, Governor of Borno, has raised fresh concerns over security in Maiduguri, revealing that two suspected suicide bombers are still at large following recent deadly explosions in the city.

Gatekeepers News reports that the Governor said intelligence reports indicated that five bombers infiltrated Maiduguri. He explained that three of them had already detonated their improvised explosive devices (IEDs), while security agencies are still searching for the remaining two.

“As I mentioned earlier, the intelligence we have received so far indicates that five suicide bombers infiltrated Maiduguri. So far, three have detonated their IEDs, while the whereabouts of the remaining two are still being investigated,” Zulum said.

The warning comes after multiple bomb blasts rocked the city, leaving at least 23 people dead and over 100 others injured in coordinated attacks across key locations.

Zulum said security operatives have intensified surveillance and are actively tracking the suspects, urging residents to remain vigilant and avoid crowded areas, particularly during the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.

He attributed the infiltration to ongoing military offensives in insurgent strongholds, noting that militants often disperse into civilian areas to evade attacks. The governor also pointed out that Maiduguri’s large population makes it difficult to effectively screen everyone entering the city.

Despite the incident, Zulum maintained that the state has made progress in tackling insurgency but warned that authorities would not allow a resurgence of violence.

The development has heightened fears of further attacks, with security forces on high alert as efforts continue to locate the remaining suspects.
