Two people have been confirmed dead following a collision between a fuel-laden tanker and a tipper truck in Lagos.
Gatekeepers News reports that the accident occurred in the early hours of Saturday along the Lekki–Epe Expressway in the Sangotedo area of the state.
Margaret Adeseye, the controller-general of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, said emergency responders were immediately deployed to the scene after the incident was reported.
“It was reported that a speeding 20-tonne tipper truck from the Epe end rammed into a stationary 30-tonne gas tanker that failed to pull over from the highway,” the statement read.
The impact of the collision led to the deaths of two individuals, while authorities worked to manage the situation and prevent further hazards, particularly given the presence of highly flammable fuel.
Emergency officials also took steps to secure the area and ensure public safety, as tanker-related accidents are often associated with fire outbreaks and significant risks to nearby residents and motorists.
