Atiku Media Office Dismisses Retirement Claims As Disinformation

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has dismissed reports suggesting that he has stepped aside from politics or announced his retirement from active political engagement.

Gatekeepers Newreports that in a statement issued on Monday, the Atiku Media Office described claims circulating on social media — alleging that the former vice president made the announcement during a meeting with stakeholders of the African Democratic Congress — as false and misleading.

According to the media team, Atiku has not recently held any such meeting with ADC stakeholders at the national level.

“The only recent engagement he had was with stakeholders of the ADC in Adamawa State last Thursday,” the media office said.

It stressed that a decision as significant as leaving active politics would not be communicated through rumours or unnamed sources.

“An issue as fundamental and consequential as exiting active politics cannot, and would never, be communicated through rumours, faceless sources, or third-party fabrication. Such a decision, if ever taken, would be formally conveyed through the Atiku Media Office,” the statement read.

The media office further alleged that the claim appeared to be part of a deliberate disinformation effort aimed at misleading the public.

“This latest falsehood bears all the hallmarks of a coordinated disinformation campaign designed to create confusion, dampen momentum, and mislead the Nigerian public,” it added.

It also suggested that the narrative may have been promoted by political opponents, insisting that the allegation was driven by individuals unsettled by what it described as growing support for efforts to challenge the current administration.

“We therefore urge supporters of Atiku Abubakar, members of the ADC, and all well-meaning Nigerians to disregard this fake news in its entirety and remain focused on the collective effort to reclaim and rebuild our nation,” the media team said.
