National Assembly has approved a further extension of the implementation period for 2025 capital budget.

Gatekeepers News reports that that National Assembly moved the deadline from March 31 to June 30, 2026 to give government agencies more time to execute ongoing projects.

The extension was effected through an amendment to the 2025 Appropriation Act, sponsored by Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, and was passed by both the Senate and the House of Representatives.

Lawmakers said the move was necessary because capital projects had not reached satisfactory levels of completion despite the release of about 30 percent of the funds to ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs).

Bamidele noted that without extending the implementation period, many critical infrastructure and development initiatives could be left incomplete.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio also praised the lawmakers for their support, saying the extension would allow the executive branch to ensure better execution of capital components of the budget.
