Sokoto State Government has constituted a committee to assess the extent of damage caused by a recent fire outbreak at the Old Market and the Sokoto Central Motor Park.
Gatekeepers News reports that in a statement issued by the Office of the Press Secretary, the Executive Governor of Sokoto State, Ahmed Aliyu, approved the formation of the committee to evaluate the impact of the inferno and recommend necessary actions.
The committee is chaired by Barrister Gandi Umar Muhammad, while Alhaji Lawal Sada will serve as secretary. It has been tasked with determining the scale of destruction at the affected locations and identifying individuals and businesses impacted by the incident.
According to the terms of reference, the committee will also investigate the cause of the fire and advise the government on preventive measures to avert similar occurrences in the future. In addition, it is expected to recommend the type and level of assistance that should be provided to victims.
The committee was given a six-week deadline to complete its assignment and submit its report to the state government.
