Leaders of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC) in Lagos East have endorsed Senator Tokunbo Abiru for another term in the National Assembly ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Gatekeepers News reports that Abiru, who chairs the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance, and Other Financial Institutions, was first elected to the Senate in 2020 through a by-election following the death of former lawmaker Bayo Osinowo. He was subsequently re-elected in 2023 to represent Lagos East in the 10th National Assembly.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by his media aide, Enitan Olukotun, the endorsement meeting took place at the residence of GAC member and Lagos East leader, Busura Adedeji Alebiosu.
The Governance Advisory Council (GAC), which serves as the highest decision-making organ of the All Progressives Congress in Lagos State, reportedly praised Abiru’s performance in office.
Party leaders said the endorsement was based on his legislative contributions, constituency projects, and consistent delivery of what they described as democratic dividends across Lagos East.
They noted that the senator has carried out interventions across all 98 wards in the 16 local government areas and local council development areas in the district, describing his representation as people-centred and impactful.
Reacting to the endorsement, Abiru expressed appreciation to the GAC and party leaders, describing the support as both humbling and motivating.
“I am sincerely grateful for this overwhelming show of confidence by our revered leaders. This endorsement is not only an honour but also a call to serve with even greater dedication, integrity, and purpose,” he said.
He added that his decision to seek re-election is aimed at consolidating ongoing development efforts and expanding projects across the district.
Abiru further emphasised that his approach to public service is guided by discipline, transparency, and measurable results, while pledging continued commitment to inclusive governance and unity in Lagos East.
