Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has dismissed five inspectors attached to Rivers State Police Command over alleged involvement in kidnapping, extortion, stealing, and official corruption.
Gatekeepers News reports that in a statement issued on Thursday, Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Placid, said the officers operated as a criminal syndicate, allegedly abducting residents during illegal patrol operations and forcing victims to transfer money from their bank and cryptocurrency accounts.
The dismissed officers were identified as John Okoi, Eyibo Asuquo, Udo Ndipmong, Bright Nwachukwu, and Anele Ikechukwu. According to the police, they were subjected to orderly room proceedings before being dismissed from the force.
Police authorities said investigations also uncovered another syndicate involving officers attached to Zone 16 headquarters in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, who allegedly carried out armed robbery, kidnapping, and extortion in Port Harcourt. Three officers were arrested, while others remain at large.
The police said exhibits recovered from the suspects included three Toyota Sienna buses allegedly used for the illegal operations and over N7.3 million linked to the crimes.
