Operatives of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted consignments of cocaine and opioids concealed inside cartons of clothes and other items being shipped to the United Kingdom and Australia.
Gatekeepers News reports that according to a statement issued by Femi Babafemi, NDLEA spokesperson, the seizures were made on Friday during the inspection of outbound cargo at a courier company in Lagos.
Babafemi said officers recovered 170 grams of cocaine sealed in cellophane parcels and buried in the walls of a carton of clothes heading to Australia.
He added that another package destined for the UK contained “200 ampoules of pentazocine injection, 1,100 capsules of tramadol and 100 ampoules of promethazine injection”.
The agency also announced a series of raids across several states. In Delta state, NDLEA operatives destroyed 65,000 kilograms of skunk on farmlands in Ukwuani and Ughelli North LGAs, while suspects including Ifeanyichukwu Peter and Godwin Vincent Osadera were arrested.
In Kaduna state, operatives recovered 361kg of skunk and intercepted military-grade ammunition concealed in bags of garri along the Abuja-Kaduna highway. The agency said the suspect and ammunition were transferred to another security agency for further investigation.
NDLEA also reported arrests in the FCT, Ogun, Taraba, Oyo, Edo and Kano states over the possession and distribution of illicit substances, including drug-laced cookies, tramadol pills and skunk.
