Alex Marquez Hospitalised After Crash At Catalan MotoGP

Spanish rider Alex Marquez was taken to hospital after a frightening multi-rider crash forced the Catalan MotoGP to be red-flagged twice during Sunday’s race in Barcelona.

Gatekeepers News reports that the incident happened on lap 12 when Pedro Acosta’s KTM reportedly lost power suddenly, leaving Márquez with little time to react. The Gresini Ducati rider collided with the slowing bike before being violently thrown off his motorcycle at high speed.

His bike was completely destroyed in the crash, while other riders including Fabio Di Giannantonio and Raul Fernandez were also caught up in the incident.

Race officials confirmed that all riders involved were conscious after the accident, but Márquez was immediately transported to hospital for further treatment.

Reports later revealed that he suffered a neck vertebra fracture and a broken collarbone, with surgery expected for the collarbone injury.

The race resumed after the first stoppage but was halted again moments later following another serious crash involving Johann Zarco. Despite the chaotic conditions, Fabio Di Giannantonio eventually secured victory in the shortened race.
