Manchester City have confirmed the appointment of Enzo Maresca as the club’s new manager following the departure of Pep Guardiola, ending months of speculation over who would succeed the Spaniard at the Etihad Stadium.
Gatekeepers News reports that the Premier League club announced on Monday that Maresca has signed a three-year contract that will keep him at Manchester City until the summer of 2029. The Italian returns to familiar surroundings, having previously worked as Guardiola’s assistant and coached the club’s elite development squad.
In his first remarks after the appointment, Maresca expressed gratitude for the opportunity and praised the people behind the club’s success. He said Manchester City’s culture, standards and ambition made the role an exciting challenge.
City’s hierarchy opted for Maresca because of his deep understanding of the club’s football philosophy and his previous experience working alongside Guardiola. The 46-year-old has also managed Leicester City and Chelsea, winning promotion to the Premier League with Leicester before later securing silverware during his spell at Chelsea.
Maresca now faces the task of maintaining the high standards established during Guardiola’s decade-long reign, a period that delivered multiple Premier League titles and the club’s first UEFA Champions League triumph. His first competitive match in charge is expected to come in the Community Shield ahead of the new season.
