The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) backed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, says it has uploaded the names of its presidential, vice-presidential and National Assembly candidates for the 2027 general election to Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) nomination portal.
Gatekeepers News reports that the party’s National Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed, announced the development in a statement on Sunday, describing it as a major step towards fulfilling the faction’s pledge to participate fully in the 2027 elections.
The party’s national chairman also congratulated party members, adding that work was ongoing to complete the upload of governorship and state House of Assembly candidates.
The move comes amid the continued leadership crisis within the PDP, which remains split into rival factions. The Wike-backed camp is recognised by INEC, while another faction led by Kabiru Turaki had earlier announced former President Goodluck Jonathan as its presidential candidate for the 2027 election. The Wike-backed faction had previously nominated former Senator Sandy Onor as its presidential candidate.
