The Minister of State for Regional Development, Hon.Uba Maigari Ahmadu, on Monday commenced a two-day inspection of critical infrastructure projects being executed by the North East Development Commission (NEDC) in Borno State, as part of efforts to address the impact of the devastating 2024 floods that ravaged parts of the state.
Gatekeepers News reports that Hon. Ahmadu commended the NEDC for the pace and quality of work on the projects, assuring that the Federal Government, under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, would continue to support initiatives aimed at rebuilding critical infrastructure and improving the lives of residents across the North-East.
This was disclosed during the inspection ongoing consteuction of bridges and hostel accomodation for students in Maiduguri , the state capital.
The inspected projets include the 9 span Fori – Galtimari briidge and 6 spans Moromoro bridge all of which collapsed during the 2024 flooding . Also a 250 bed space students hostel ar the Mohamet Lawan College of Agriculture Borno state is being constructed by the NEDC
The Minister urged the consultant and contractors handling the projects to maintain the momentum and ensure that the projects are delivered according to specifications and within the stipulated timelines.
” I want to commend the NEDC and the contractors , but i hope that when next we come here , this bridge would have been fully delivered and access roads would have also been completed to the benefit of residents around here ” The Minister said while inspecting the Fori- Galtimari bridge .
The inspection is expected to continue on Tuesday, with the Minister and his team scheduled to visit additional NEDC-funded projects across the state.
The development interventions, when completed, are expected to strengthen infrastructure, improve access to essential services and support the ongoing recovery and reconstruction efforts in Borno State
