A fire outbreak has killed a woman and her three children and destroyed the Rugar Audu Badali Fulani settlement in Karasuwa Local Government Area of Yobe State.
Gatekeepers News reports that the incident occurred at about 5pm on Friday, according to the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), which disclosed the development in a statement on Saturday.
The victims were identified as Bilkisu, wife of Mallam Bukar, and her three children, Zainab, Hafsat and Salamatu. SEMA said the four victims have been buried according to Islamic rites.
The fire also destroyed residential structures and household belongings, leaving surviving members of the affected household homeless.
Following the incident, SEMA, alongside officials of Karasuwa Local Government Area and community stakeholders, conducted an assessment and condolence visit to the affected community.
The agency said its assessment showed an urgent need for emergency relief materials, temporary shelter and psychosocial support for the displaced survivors.
SEMA expressed condolences to the bereaved family and the people of Karasuwa, while pledging to coordinate humanitarian assistance and mobilise resources to support those affected.
The agency also called for collective efforts to prevent similar fire incidents in communities across Yobe State.
