Sokoto State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Professor Ahmad Ladan Ala, has called on principals and other education stakeholders across the state to remain resilient, committed and dedicated to their responsibilities as the state prepares for the commencement of the 2026/2027 academic session.
Gatekeepers News reports that Professor Ala made the call today Thursday September, 13, 2026, during a meeting with principals from across the state ahead of the new academic session.
The Commissioner urged principals to intensify monitoring and evaluation in their respective schools, stressing the need for them to lead by example and demonstrate the level of dedication expected from their subordinates.
He commended the principals for their support and contributions to the development of education in the state, assuring them of the continued commitment of the Sokoto State Government to improving the education sector.
According to him, the efforts of the principals have contributed significantly to the achievements recorded by the administration of Governor Ahmad Aliyu, particularly in the area of education.
Professor Ala expressed optimism that Sokoto State would soon rank among the top five states in Nigeria in terms of educational performance, noting that the government would continue to provide the necessary support and resources to achieve this objective.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Sanusi Aliyu Binji, urged principals to sustain their efforts and remain committed to improving standards in their respective schools.
Dr. Binji commended the principals for their tireless efforts and support, which, he said, contributed to the state recording an impressive 85 per cent success rate in WAEC, NECO and NABTEB examinations.
In separate goodwill messages, the Executive Secretary of the Arabic and Islamic Education Board, Ahmad Baba Altine, the Executive Secretary of the Female Education Board, Shehu Aliyu; the Executive Director of Nomadic Education, Muhammad Dikko Goshe; Permanent Board Member of the Sokoto State Teachers Service Board, Hon.Faruku Sifawa, and the Project Coordinator of AGILE, Dr. Mansur Isah Buhari, urged principals to continue supporting the Commissioner in his efforts to move the state’s education sector forward in line with the vision of Governor Ahmad Aliyu.
They also emphasized the importance of punctuality and discipline, urging principals to always be present and punctual at their duty posts in order to set a good example for teachers and other staff under their supervision.
Speaking on behalf of principals, the State President of the All Nigeria Conference of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), Comrade Muhammad Ikililu Abubakar, pledged the unwavering commitment of principals across the state to supporting government policies and initiatives aimed at bringing positive developments to their schools.
A major highlight of the meeting was the flag off by the Commissioner of the distribution of educational books procured by the Sokoto State Government under the leadership of Governor Ahmad Aliyu. The books are to be distributed to schools across the state to support teaching and learning.
In a vote of thanks, the Sokoto State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Comrade Murtala Muhammad, appreciated the Commissioner and the entire management team of the Ministry for their commitment and efforts toward bringing positive changes to the education sector.
He pledged the continued support and cooperation of teachers in the state toward achieving the administration’s educational objectives.
