The Kaduna chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has alleged that its members have been attacked and party offices and vehicles vandalised by suspected thugs across the state.
Gatekeepers News reports that in a statement, Sani Dan-Azare, the party’s publicity secretary, called on the police and other security agencies to investigate the reported incidents and bring those responsible to justice.
He urged the security agencies to “promptly and impartially investigate the reported incidents, establish the circumstances surrounding them” and ensure that perpetrators face the law.
“Various claims and allegations have emerged in connection with these incidents. We urge the security agencies to independently examine every credible lead and all relevant evidence brought before them,” Dan-Azare said.
The APC spokesman said Kaduna had made significant progress in overcoming the political, ethnic and religious tensions that had previously affected the state’s stability.
He warned that the gains made should not be undermined by violence or other unlawful acts.
“These hard-earned gains must not be endangered by violence, intimidation, vandalism or any other unlawful conduct,” he said.
Dan-Azare said the party remained committed to peaceful and issue-based political engagement, urging political parties, candidates and their supporters to conduct themselves responsibly and in accordance with the law.
He also appealed to APC members and support groups across the state to remain calm and avoid retaliatory actions.
“We urge our members and support groups across Kaduna State to remain calm, exercise maximum restraint and refrain from retaliation or self-help,” Dan-Azare said.
“No political contest is greater than the peace and security of Kaduna State. Let the facts be established. Let due process prevail. Let the law take its course.”
The party further urged anyone with relevant information or evidence concerning the incidents to provide it to the appropriate security agencies.
Dan-Azare stressed that political contests should not be allowed to undermine peace and security in Kaduna State.
