Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah has approved the appointment of 101 aides, including Nollywood actresses Rachael Okonkwo and Eucharia Anunobi, to various positions in his administration.
Gatekeepers News reports that the appointments were announced in a statement signed by the Secretary to the Enugu State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, on Monday and took effect immediately.
The appointments comprise seven Special Advisers, six Senior Special Assistants and 88 Special Assistants.
Okonkwo, popularly known as Nkoli Nwa Nsukka, was appointed Senior Special Assistant on Film and Creative Industry Development. The actress, who is from Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State, is known for her role in the Nkoli Nwa Nsukka film series.
Anunobi, a veteran Nollywood actress and evangelist, was appointed Special Assistant on Women Mobilisation for Enugu-North Zone. She has featured in more than 90 films since beginning her acting career in the 1990s.
The seven Special Advisers appointed by Mbah include S.N.C. Nwagu as Special Adviser on Conflict Resolution and Mediation; Fidelis Odo on Inter-Governmental Affairs and Co-ordination; Augustine Okoli on Policy Affairs and Analysis; Pedro Nwankwo on Stakeholders Relations and Community Affairs; Chimezie Nkwuo on Economic Development; Vitalis Okonkwo on Grassroots Coordination; and Peter Andy Omeje on Commerce and Business Development.
Other appointees were assigned portfolios covering security, environmental protection, market sanitation, health facility maintenance, road infrastructure, youth development, community engagement, technology, communication and grassroots mobilisation.
Former Actors Guild of Nigeria president Emeka Rollas congratulated Rachael Okonkwo on her appointment, saying her experience and knowledge of the creative industry would be useful in her new role.
The Enugu State Government said all the appointments took effect immediately.
