Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has warned Nigerians against a fake website claiming that a fresh nationwide online voter registration exercise is ongoing.

Gatekeepers News reports that the commission issued the warning in a public notice on Saturday, October 3, 2026, after the website advertised a registration window from September 28 to October 27, 2026. INEC said the platform, pvc-inecnigeria-org.blogspot.com, is not affiliated with the commission.

INEC urged members of the public not to click on the website or provide personal information, warning that doing so could expose sensitive data to harvesting or misuse.

The commission said the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise ended on July 26, 2026, contrary to claims that a new nationwide online registration exercise is currently underway.

The fake platform reportedly claimed to offer a “Final Phase of Nationwide Online Voter Card Registration” and listed services including new registration, transfer of voter registration to another polling unit, and replacement of lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

INEC said Nigerians should rely on its official communication channels for electoral information. Its official CVR portal currently states that the registration exercise has ended and is not active.

The commission also warned that submitting personal details on the fraudulent platform could expose users to data theft or misuse.

INEC had earlier extended the CVR exercise in July by two weeks, with the final deadline set for July 26. The exercise allowed eligible Nigerians to register, transfer their voter registration, correct personal information and replace lost or damaged PVCs.
