The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that it will commence the distribution of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to eligible registered voters on Thursday.
Gatekeepers News reports that INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, disclosed this at a strategic engagement meeting with journalists in Abuja.
The exercise is expected to give access to PVCs to Nigerians who recently registered as voters, transferred their voting locations or applied for replacement of damaged cards ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to the commission, the distribution forms part of its ongoing preparations to ensure that eligible Nigerians are able to participate in the electoral process.
Amupitan also said INEC was strengthening the use of technology to prevent stolen, lost or compromised voter cards from being used by unauthorised persons to interfere with elections.
The INEC chairman further warned political parties and their supporters against disrupting the campaigns, rallies and other activities of rival parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He urged all stakeholders to conduct their activities peacefully and respect the rights of other political parties and their supporters.
