The Zamfara State Government has approved a plan to provide 36,176 residents with shares in Dangote Group as part of efforts to promote financial inclusion and economic empowerment.
Gatekeepers News reports that the state Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Relief Matters said the initiative is designed to give residents access to investment opportunities and enable them to benefit from Nigeria’s business sector.
Under the programme, each beneficiary is expected to receive approximately 20 shares through the Dangote Initial Public Offering (IPO), in collaboration with the state ministries of Humanitarian Affairs and Finance, as well as the Zamfara Investment Company.
The programme will be coordinated by the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Salisu Musa Tsafe Kainuwa.
According to the ministry, beneficiaries will be selected from the state’s 14 local government areas. Thirteen local government areas will each have 2,261 beneficiaries, while Gusau, the state capital, will have 4,522 beneficiaries.
The ministry added that persons with disabilities would also benefit from the scheme as part of efforts to promote inclusiveness and ensure that vulnerable groups have access to investment opportunities.
It said the initiative was approved by Governor Dauda Lawal to expand residents’ participation in investment activities and promote financial independence.
The government described the scheme as part of its broader humanitarian and economic empowerment agenda, adding that additional programmes targeting women and young people would be announced.
However, the ministry’s claims regarding the number of shares to be allocated, expected returns and payments to the company could not be independently verified at the time of filing this report.
The statement did not disclose the price per share, the total amount earmarked for the programme or the mechanism through which the shares would be distributed to beneficiaries.
