Red Bull star Max Verstappen is the new Formula 1 (F1) world champion.
Gatekeepers News reports that Verstappen has won Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and F1 World Championship.
Although Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton led for the majority of the race after a strong start, it all came down to the last lap, following Nicholas Latifi’s crash in the 53rd lap.
Verstappen took advantage of the exit of the safety car and his new tyres to emerge as the winner. Mercedes were left livid and will no doubt request a thorough explanation.
Hamilton has therefore missed out on a record-breaking eighth F1 World Championship as Verstappen gets his first after an incredible season.
