Funke Akindele, the Deputy governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State expressed optimism that her over 20 million social media fans and grassroots fans will vote for her in the forthcoming 2023 election.
Gatekeepers News reports that the actress turned politician was unveiled earlier this week as the running mate of Lagos PDP Governorship candidate, Olajide Adediran (a.k.a Jandor) who said Funke was chosen because would add more value to his candidacy in the elections.
Funke’s selection generated mixed reactions from Nigerians and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) also mocked the PDP after the announcement, saying the actress had nothing to offer as the deputy governorship candidate.
Asked how she intends to defeat the APC and win the election in Lagos, Funke said she has over 20m followers on social media who are ready to vote for her.
She boasted that apart from her followers on social media, so many people love her at the grassroots level in Lagos State.
“I have the numbers, I have fans and followers and I’m true to myself.
“I have more than 20m fans on social media and also at the grassroots level.
“I have fans at the grassroots level outside Ikorodu ready to support me and I’m true to myself. What I’m coming in is to change the lives of Lagosians.
“I’m here to provide solutions in Lagos. I’m in the system, I’m in the pain, we all know where the shoe pinches us,” she said in an interview with Channels Tv on Thursday.
