Reports emerged on Monday that the Department of State Services (DSS) invaded the headquarters of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), condoning off the office of the embattled governor of the apex bank, Godwin Emefiele.
Gatekeepers News reports that the report follows the return of Emefiele to the country after his annual leave.
Emefiele is facing allegations of terrorism financing, diversion of revenue, agricultural loans and fraudulent practices in Forex transactions.
The DSS had approached an Abuja court to arrest Emefiele but Justice Maryam Hassan of the Federal Capital Territory High Court Abuja quashed the move.
The judge barred the DSS from arresting, inviting, or detaining Emefiele declaring the terrorism allegations against the CBN governor by the DSS as vindictive, callous, oppressive, void, and of no effect.
Emefiele resumed duty on Monday and there have been speculations that the Secret Police stormed his office.
In reaction, the DSS dismissed and tagged the report as “fake and misleading”.
“The attention of the Department of State Services (DSS) has been drawn to the false news making the round that its operatives invaded the Central Bank of Nigeria and arrested its Governor, today 16/1/23. This is fake news and quite misleading,” DSS Spokesman, Peter Afunanya said in a statement.
