Conservatorship: Judge Permits Britney Spears To Choose Lawyer

Britney Spears’ court-appointed lawyer, Samuel Ingham III has declared intention to resign from singer Britney Spears’ conservatorship case. Gatekeepers News reports that Ingham filed documents to resign in Los Angeles Superior Court on Tuesday after Spears's comments in court decrying the legal arrangement that controls her money and affairs. Ingham's resignation would take effect when the court appoints a new lawyer for Spears. “Samuel D. Ingham III hereby resigns as court-appointed counsel for Britney Jean Spears, conservatee, effective upon the appointment of new court-appointed counsel,” the court filings read. Gatekeepers News reports that Ingham has been representing Spears for the entirety of her 13-year conservatorship. In 2008, the court put the arrangement in place, with her father, Jamie Spears, as her sole conservator. Ingham and Spears’ working relationship came into question last month when the singer gave an explosive testimony, calling her conservatorship “abusive” and addressing the court for the first time ever in her 13-year conservatorship. She wished the court would allow her to hire a lawyer of her choice. On Monday, Spears’ longtime manager Larry Rudolph resigned saying he has not been in communication with Spears for over two years and had no involvement with the conservatorship.

A Judge has permitted Britney Spears to choose her lawyer.

Gatekeepers News reports that American Singer, Britney Spears has made a significant milestone in the fight to end her conservatorship as a Los Angeles judge has permitted her to now choose her lawyer.

Spears is currently in a fierce legal battle with her father, Jamie Spears who has been in charge of her personal, and professional life since 2008. Her father has also been in charge of her finance.

Gatekeepers News gathered the court has, therefore, signaled that the 39-year-old can now hire Mathew Rosengart to represent her.

Spears before the judge’s ruling, said, “You’re allowing my dad to ruin my life. I have to get rid of my dad and charge him with conservatorship abuse.”

In June, a judge denied the star’s request to remove her father from his role of overseeing her affairs. After this ruling, her new lawyer, Rosengart disclosed he is filing a petition “as soon as possible” to terminate Jamie Spears as the conservator.

The Pop Star legal counsel also suggested the singer’s father should step down now before this case progresses any further. Rosengart is a former federal prosecutor who has represented the likes of Steven Spielberg and Sean Penn.

The singer, during the most recent hearing, said she has “extreme abandonment issues” because of her father.

In June, Britney in a 20-minute public address that grabbed the interest of her fans and supporters on her conservatorship case alleged that the legal arrangement was “abusive”.

Thirteen years ago, Britney’s father initiated a conservatorship service to take charge of his daughter’s life after she had a mental health breakdown. Know more about her conservatorship battle here.

Following the new ruling, Spears posted a video of herself performing cartwheels on social media. “Coming along, folks… coming along!!!!! New with real representation today… I feel GRATITUDE and BLESSED.”

“Thank you to my fans who are supporting me … You have no idea what it means to me to be supported by such awesome fans !!!! God bless you all !!!!!”
