Edo Governor And First Lady Felicitates Wife Of Late Ambrose Alli At 80

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State, Southern Nigeria has praised the enduring qualities of hard work, diligence, and forthrightness exemplified by Rosemary Walker-Alli, the wife of the former Governor of Old Bendel State, Late Professor Ambrose Alli.

Gatekeepers News reports that Governor Obaseki extended his commendation to Alli-Walker during her 80th birthday celebration in Birmingham, United Kingdom.

The First Lady of Edo State, Her Excellency Betsy Obaseki, who delivered the Governor’s message emphasised the impact of Prof. Ambrose Alli’s leadership during his tenure as Governor.

The Edo First Lady highlighted the enduring significance of policies and programs he championed, particularly in education, urban and rural development, and healthcare. These initiatives, she noted, continue to mould the trajectory of Edo State’s progress.

She noted that the former Governor and his wife have a special place in the hearts of Edo people.

The Edo State First Lady also informed Alli-Walker of the Governor’s decision to pay the pensions and gratuity of the Late Governor of Bendel State from when he assumed office in September 1983 until his passing in 1989.

She, thereafter, presented a document to this effect to the former First Lady of Bendel State.

In her response to the felicitation, Alli-Walker expressed her gratitude to the First Lady for travelling from Nigeria to join in her celebration.

In a display of her continued commitment to humanitarian causes, Alli-Walker pledged to support free surgeries for children with cleft lips, an initiative named “Operation Smile.”

In 2018, Obaseki sought and obtained a posthumous Presidential Pardon for Late Governor Ambrose Alli; a request that was ratified by the Council of State in 2020.
