As part of a deliberate move to improve critical infrastructure, the Borno State Governor, Prof Babagana Zulum on Saturday flagged off the construction of N7.9 Billion West- End Flyover in Maiduguri, the state capital.
Gatekeepers News report that this the third flyover since Zulum took over the mantle of leadership in 2019 and the move of the current construction according to the governor is part of the urban renewal program aimed at dicongesting traffic around the West – End axis and boosting economic activities within the state capital.
Governor Zulum stated this at a brief ceremony in Maiduguri where he revealed that 50% of the contract sum has been released to Eighteenth Engineering Company (EEC) to carry out the project within one year without claims of contact variation, pointing out the monies for the complete execution of the project had been set aside.
According to Goverenor Zulum: “The construction of this flyover is not only for aesthetic consideration. The most important thing is to reduce vehicular congestion in the area. The custom roundabout was the busiest before now. The construction here would create thousands of job opportunities for our teeming youths within the Metropolitan Council.” Zulum said.
The Governor added that ground breaking ceremony for the construction of the West -End flyover is “in fulfilment of our electioneering campaign to ensure urban renewal of some major cities in Borno State, especially Maiduguri Metropolitan Council, the government of Borno State is serious about uplifting and upgrading facilities within the Metropolitan Council.
“We have constructed two flyovers; this will be the third one and, , before we leave office, we will ensure the completion of all the structures we have initiated” the governor said
