Senator Ayogu Eze, who represented Enugu North Senatorial District in the National Assembly, has passed away at the age of 66.

Gatekeeper News reports that he was a former Senate spokesman and a founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) before he defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Eze passed away after a prolonged illness at an Abuja hospital.

The late Senator was unable to attend his child’s wedding ceremony earlier this year due to his health condition.

During his time in the Senate, Eze served as the chairman of several committees, including the committee on Information and Media, works, Police Affairs, National Planning, Marine Transport, and Federal Character & Inter-Government Affairs. In 2011, he was re-elected to the Senate and was subsequently appointed as the chairman of the committee on works.

In May of last year, Eze was confirmed as one of six Federal Commissioners for Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) by the Senate.
