Akeredolu Debunks Rumoured Support For Yoruba Nation

Governor Rotimi Akeredolu has dissociated himself from rumoured support for Yoruba Nation Agitators.

Gatekeepers News reports that Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State, Southwest Nigerian has dissociated himself from any support for the Yoruba Nation Agitators.

On Saturday, the group held a rally under the cover of what they termed “secessionists agitators” in Akure with a claim that the Governor was in support.

The Governor in a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary of the State, Richard Olatunde on Sunday, described the claim as erroneous.

He stated that his acknowledgment for the peaceful rally should not be misconstrued for support of the “secessionist agenda and or balkanization of the nation.”

According to him, his opinion on the rally in the state was only to the effect that he is not opposed to any civil protest which is not in breach of the extant laws of the nation.

The Ondo Governor said he neither believes nor supports the quest for the Yoruba Nation outside Nigeria in the manner canvassed, adding that he stands by a virile, united, and indivisible Nigeria.

The statement read further:

“Therefore, the vigour, zeal, leadership, and candour displayed by Governor Akeredolu for a just and fair Nigeria is altruistic and borne out of patriotism for the Nation as well as love for people of the Yoruba ethnic nationality.

“It is important, therefore, to state with any equivocation that the Yoruba Nation secessionist promoters do not enjoy any lending hand in Governor Akeredolu.”
