Lewandowski Beats Muller’s Bundesliga Goals Record

Lewandowski has beaten Gerd Muller’s Bundesliga goals record in a single season.

Gatekeepers News reports that Robert Lewandowski has beaten Gerd Muller’s long-standing Bundesliga goals record on Saturday.

In 1971/72 season, Muller scored 40 goals, however, Lewandowski has recorded his 41st score in the 2020/2021 season on Saturday.

Gatekeepers News reports that the Polish frontman broke this record at the dying minutes of the Bayern’s match against Augsburg.

In the last season, Lewandowski’s 55 goals in 47 games across all competitions played a key role in Bayern’s run to the treble.

Although 34 of the scores were recorded in the German top flight, he lost the European Golden Shoe to Lazio’s Ciro Immobile who was a goal ahead.

The Poland International who is leading the race for the award midway through the 2020-21 campaign, keep helping Bayern to dominate their domestic league.

A long time ago, Lewandoski secured a place alongside the Bayern legend in the club’s hall of fame and he is also making a case to be remembered as the greatest striker of his generation.

In 2020, he won the Best FIFA Men’s Player award after another outstanding year in Germany, and was a potential Ballon d’Or winner before the ceremony was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Lewandoski would have broken Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo’s dominance of the annual prize.

During an interview in December, the experienced centre-forward admitted that he feels he has reached the same level as the pair.

He said, “If you take the numbers for this year and even previous ones, I think I’m pretty good in terms of performance and goals scored,” he said.

“Failing to be at the same table as Messi and Ronaldo, I think I can invite them to eat at mine.”
