UEFA Fines Ibrahimovic €50000

UEFA has fined Zlatan Ibrahimovic for a financial interest in a betting company.

Gatekeepers News reports that UEFA has fined AC Milan’s striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic €50,000 ($61,000) for breaking the governing body rules by having financial ties in a betting company.

His Club, Milan were also warned and fined €25,000 for violating the same article of UEFA’s disciplinary regulations.

UEFA in a statement on Wednesday, while confirming his fine said, “€50,000 for violating Article 12(2)(b) of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations (DR), i.e for having a financial interest in a betting company.

“The Chairman of the UEFA Appeals Body also issued Mr. Ibrahimovic with a directive aimed at ceasing the player’s association with the relevant betting company.”

In April, Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet reported that the Swedish Striker is a part-owner of the Malta-based betting company.

FIFA’s Code of Ethics state that a player cannot have interests in entities or companies that “promote, broker, arrange or conduct betting, gambling, lotteries or similar events or transactions connected with football matches and competitions”.

Gatekeepers News gathered that he signed a one-year contract extension with Milan last month.
