NDLEA Nabs School Leaver And Accounting Graduate With Drugs

National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has nabbed a secondary school leaver and accounting graduate with drugs.

Gatekeepers News reports that the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested 23-year-old secondary school leaver, Iwuyi Chukwuka, and a 27-year-old graduate of Accountancy, Bayero University, Kano (BUK), Zakaru Baba in Abuja and Kano respectively.

NDLEA made this known in a statement signed by its Spokesman, Femi Babafemi on Tuesday.

According to the statement, Chukwuka and a Europe-based Nigerian, Peter Mkwo were planning to export nine kilograms of skunk and methamphetamine through the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport(NAIA), Abuja to Turkey and Belgium respectively.

Mkwo, 37, who was arrested at search point on Friday, May 28, 2021, was trying to board an Ethiopian Airline 910 en route Abuja-Addis Ababa- Brussels, Belgium. 3kg of methamphetamine was found stuffed in the lining of a false bottom of his luggage.

Mkwo while under interrogation claimed he has lived in Belgium for 15 years and worked as a forklift driver in an automobile company, where he earned 1,700 Euro per month.

He added that he came into Nigeria on April 26, for the burial of his father who died in August 2019 but was buried on April 30, 2020, in Awka, Anambra State.

Gatekeepers News gathered that he left Awka for Uyo after the burial and later travelled to Lagos.

Mkwo narrated how he met two men while lodging at a hotel in Amuwo Odofin, Lagos. The two men proposed to him to carry the drug for onward delivery to Belgium.

According to him, the two men brought the bag containing the drug to him in the hotel on Friday, May 28, before he took off to Abuja where he was to take his flight to Brussels.

He who added that he was promised 3,000 Euro on successful delivery to one Ishmael, in Belgium, claimed he accepted the offer to deliver the drug to raise some fund to pay back the money he borrowed from friends during the burial of his father.

Chukwuka, on the other hand, was arrested with a 6.3kg skunk concealed in crayfish and stuffed inside Golden Morn packs during an outward clearance of a Turkish airline flight at the departure hall of the Abuja airport.

The Secondary School leaver during interrogation claimed he was travelling for a Diploma study in Tourism and Hotel Management at the University of Mediterranean, Karpasia, North Cyprus.

Similarly, Baba has been arrested at the local wing of the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano (MAKIA) with 6kg of Cannabis Sativa.

Gatekeepers News gathered that the consignment was flown from Lagos to Kano on Saturday, 29th May via Max Air.

Baba was arrested when he turned up to claim the packaged drug and has since confessed ownership of the exhibit.

NDLEA stated that this is the first time the MAKIA Command apprehended a suspect via the domestic wing of the Airport, as most arrests and seizures are usually made at the international wing.

Chairman/Chief Executive of NDLEA, Mohamed Buba Marwa in reaction to the development commended the NAIA Commander, Kabir Tsakuwa, and his MAKIA counterpart, Mohammed Ajiya, as well as the officers and men of the two Commands for their vigilance and commitment to the task of ridding the country of illicit substances.

Marwa charged them not to rest on their oars as the Agency intensifies the war against drug abuse and trafficking in Nigeria.
