#JusticeForBlessing: UNILORIN Student Allegedly Raped To Death

Student of University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), Olajide Omowumi Blessing, has been allegedly raped to death.

Gatekeepers News reports that a 300-level student of the Agricultural Science Department of the University of Ilorin, UNILORIN, North-Central Nigeria, Olajide Omowumi Blessing, has been allegedly raped to death.

The deceased, who hails from Oke-Opin in Ekiti local government area of Kwara state, was said to have been raped to death in her Tanke, Ilorin, home on Tuesday.

The late Blessing was said to be staying with her elder sister in the Tanke area of Ilorin South Local Government Area, Kwara State, North Central Nigeria, before her unfortunate death.

Kwara Police Command spokesperson, Ajayi Okasanmi confirmed the incident, adding that the Command has launched an immediate manhunt to arrest the perperators.

Okasanmi, while giving the details of the incident, said:

“The deceased stayed with her elder sister. The elder sister came back from work at about 06:00pm on Tuesday, saying that she had tried severally to reach her on phone but couldn’t as the phone kept ringing.

“She came back from work to meet the door of her apartment locked and couldn’t gain entry despite repeated knocks on the door. She then called some neighbours who helped to break open the door.

“They all met the deceased lying dead on the floor when they entered with her two hands tied to the back and her mouth gagged. She was met naked, bruises were noticed on her private part, her mouth was covered among others.

“Also, a note said to have been written on a piece of paper was placed on her chest containing a message, :Unilorin doesn’t forgive’.

“The people later informed the police at F’ Division Police Station, who discovered the dead body, snapped the picture, and took the corpse to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) for autopsy.”

Kwara state Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, while condemning the incident said:

“I mourn the shocking and utterly condemnable reported rape and murder of Miss Olajide Omowumi Blessing, a 300-level student of the University of Ilorin by some yet-to-be-identified persons.

“The development is heart-wrenching and absolutely unacceptable. Such antisocial and despicable behaviour will never be acceptable to all people of good conscience, and all of us will unite to fight this to a logical conclusion.”

AbdulRazaq also called on the security agencies to get to the root of this dastardly act with a view to bringing the mindless perpetrators to book.

Similarly, he called on anyone with valuable information to volunteer same to the security agencies.

He commiserated with the parents of the deceased, her course/housemates, and the university community on the sad incident, while praying that the Almighty God reposes her soul.

“I hereby send strong warnings that we will not tolerate indiscriminate violence against any person, much less the girl child. Enough is enough! The security agencies will get the perpetrators to pay heavily for this crime.” AbdulRazaq added.

UNILORIN Student Union President,  Taofeek Waliyu, also called for an immediate investigation into the incident, assuring the student populace of justice.

He said:

“We will not stay aloof as if we’re not concerned. Rather, we’ll contribute our quota, constructively and legally to ensure #justiceforblessing.

“Preach peace and stay safe during this trying period. All hands are on deck !!.”

In a similar vein, the Student Union Public Relations Officer, Olabode Stephen, also assured the university community of justice.

He noted the Union is not unaware of this despicable act on one of them

Stephen added that “necessary steps are already being taken by the police to ensure that the perpetrator(s) are nipped in the buds.”

“We beseech all Unilorites to be calm and stay safe in this trying period.”
