Euro 2020: Czech Republic And Slovakia Secure Opener

Czech Republic and Slovakia have secured their opener at the Euro 2020.

Gatekeepers News reports that the Czech Republic have thrashed Scotland 2-0, as Slovakia defeat Poland 2-1 to secure their opening matches at Euro 2020.

Although Scotland 23 years of waiting for an appearance at the men’s major tournament ended on Monday, Patrik Schick cruised the joy by launching a strike at the end of the first half to secure a goal for the Czech men.

Schick doubled it at the beginning of the second half with an astonishing kick from halfway, ending the game at 2-0 in favour of the Czech Republic.

On the other hand, Poland Wojciech Szczesny secured the first goal for Slovakia through an error own goal, making him the first goalkeeper to score an own goal in European Championships history.

Karol Linetty tapped at 46th, however, gave the Poles an equaliser, which was later short-lived as Grzegorz Krychowiak was shown a second yellow card and kicked out of the pitch at 62nd minute.

Milan Skriniar sealed Slovakia’s victory as he turned in a goal from the corner at the 69th minute, giving the Robert Lewandoski side an ugly start at their opening.

Meanwhile, Spain and Sweden were both unable to secure a goal at their opener on Monday night.

Well-organised Sweden frustrated the efforts of three-time European Championship winners Spain as they opened their Euro 2020 with a 0-0 draw in Seville.

Euro 2020 continues today as Hungary meet Portugal and France face Germany.
